Good UI

This is Led++’s new UI – it’s fantastic.

I’ll write something about it later (hopefully after talking to Led).

From Led++’s post on EJ.

    The video shows it off a little better. I do have some complaints, but I’m pretty impressed.

    Aye, it is.

    I don’t see the attraction to that HUD. It’s kind of… horrible. The target health quadrant obstructs your field of vision and as a whole it’s distracting. The party frame, among other things, is really fantastic though.

    Yeah I agree about target health, I have thought of some solutions that could help. Honestly the hole “complete ring” made the view feel very closed in.

    That said, the party frames are fantastic but more on that later.

    It’s something you have to get used to. Perhaps it also depends a bit on what you focus on during combat. Anyway after using the hud for a few days now it feels really comftarble (that is so spelled wrong).

    Few small changes:
    hud has a “shadow” effect making it stick out more on some backgrounds.
    new castbar (tho only supports my own, so no target castbar, no mirror castbat, no focus castbar .. ah well).
    Actionbars beside the minimap or faded out way more.

    When i saw this HUD the first time, i had an idea to place it around the minimap with scale 50%, in the center down of the screen, but i failed because that HUD had not enought option to configure, maybe a bug with my french version of WoW.

    I’am steel thinking it’s a great HUD but not around the player :(

    Duke!!!!!!!! omgomg I thought your newest UI was awesome too!

    Why oh why is Europe winning the UI wars?

    Thx Rob, i’m glad you like it !
    I’m still working on it ;)

  12. Comment by Led ++ | 06/17/09 at 11:53 am

    That would actually be a good idea Duke, but I’m the kind of guy that likes his minimap somewhere in a corner and not near my UF’s (tho I have done it before).

    Also tried to use 50% scale for a few minutes but I had the impression they were to close to my player model that way.

    Btw you could try to redownload the hud now, perhaps some features you missed work now. :)

    Btw I’m tweaking it a bit atm. New screenshots will be up in a few days.

    Things get smaller (the hud), mine and target health/power/.. repositioned + same font as party, party might lose it’s healthbar and be text only again, buffs repositioned for better monitoring along with cooldowns, ..

    is the first phase of it.

    If by “good” you mean “looks confusing as all fuck,” then yes, it’s terrific.

  15. Comment by Led ++ | 06/19/09 at 6:25 am

    @ Jolty: There’s so little on the screen, what’s confusing you? Plus if you make the UI you know where you put things ;)

    Well, props to you if you can actually manage to play well with that UI. I can’t help but feel that reaction times will suffer because of the way information is presented. Tiny fonts and 1px-wide bars, while pleasing to eye, are not going to get your attention quick enough when things go wrong. Text health won’t draw your eye as much as bars. The action bar placement also feels a bit random.

    That HUD… well, I guess I just don’t know what the fuck is going on with that thing. Haha.

    I do, however, like what you did with the buffs, even if they’re a little obnoxious being at the center of the screen.

    Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a nice UI, looks-wise. I just believe that it’s stretching the “minimalist” envelope a little too far, especially in terms of functionality. However, you’re the one using it, so I guess as long as nobody’s getting killed in-game over a UI…

  17. Comment by Led ++ | 06/20/09 at 7:14 pm

    Well it’s true bars work faster, so I would not recommend the UI to any healer. But I myself am tanking at this point and I dont find bars to be something I need. Note that the HP values change color depending on health so that still gives you quite a quick feeling of someones status.
    The actionbar is random but I only have to click it to apply buffs, so that’s out of combat anyways. ALL the other actions are bound as I cant play in any other way.

    are the newest shot, tho mind that in the last shot some essential things like SCT, threatmeter have been changed already. The first shot is just to show the UF placement, buffs etc.

    I think if Rob wants to write something about it he has to ask some new questions. If he still likes the UI that is :D

    Led, what fonts are you using in this?

    Great UI – it’s got me tinkering with my own for the first time in months! xD

  19. Comment by Chiye | 06/21/09 at 9:09 pm

    Led, what Scrolling Combat Log u are using? I like the simpleness ;)

  20. Comment by Led ++ | 06/22/09 at 9:18 am

    @Ktjrn: The pixelfont is Semplice Regular, the chat font is Expressway Free.

    @Chiye: It’s a modified EavesDrop, set-up to show only damage, healing and buffs I recieve. So basicly I dont see how much damage or healing I do anymore, but I dont need that.
